Branches kept off roofs, siding, chimneys, driveways and sight lines, with cuts made so the tree stays healthy.
Branches over a roof drop leaves into gutters, hold moisture against shingles and scratch siding in the wind. Branches over a driveway scrape trucks, and branches blocking a sight line are a safety issue. Clearance pruning gets them out of the way with the least harm to the tree.
We cut back to a branch or trunk, not to a stub, so the tree heals and the regrowth is predictable. A Certified Arborist sets the clearance targets, often several feet from structures, and reads the tree for what it can lose. We also tell you honestly when a tree is simply too close to the house for pruning to be a long-term answer.
A common target is several feet between branches and the roof, enough to keep leaves and scrapes away and to allow for growth. Chimneys, vents and skylights need extra care. We aim for clearance that lasts a few seasons.
Branches touching or near power lines are a job for the utility or a qualified line-clearance crew. We do not work in the minimum approach distance to energized lines and will tell you when to call the utility.
A tree whose trunk leans over the roof or whose roots are damaging a foundation may need removal or a structural fix. We tell you, with reasons, and offer options.
Keeping branches off the roof also reduces leaf buildup and moisture on shingles and helps squirrels and raccoons stay off the roof. A tree-clearance trim is often the most economical roof maintenance you can do.
