Brush turned into mulch on site, spread in your beds or taken away, so tree work leaves something useful behind.
Every tree job produces brush, and most of it can be put to work. Chipping reduces a pile of limbs to a fraction of its volume and creates mulch that protects soil, holds moisture and suppresses weeds. Fresh arborist chips are valued by gardeners for exactly those reasons.
We chip on site with commercial chippers and offer to spread the chips where you want them, pile them for later or haul them away. For beds, we apply the right depth and keep it off trunks. A Certified Arborist can tell you which chips are good mulch and which, such as diseased or invasive material, should leave the site.
A layer of mulch several inches deep keeps soil temperature steady, retains water and feeds the soil as it breaks down. It also protects trunks from mowers and trimmers. Fresh chips from your own tree work are a free resource.
Mulch should be a few inches deep, spread out to the dripline if possible and kept several inches back from the trunk. Piling mulch against the trunk, sometimes called volcano mulching, invites rot and pests.
We keep diseased material, invasive species with viable seed and certain toxic woods away from garden beds. We tell you what we recommend and why, and we can haul those chips away.
Chips are not the only option. Pine straw, shredded bark and leaf mulch each have strengths. We can advise which fits your beds, your style and your budget.
