Fungal and bacterial problems like anthracnose, leaf spot and oak diseases identified and managed so trees recover.
Tree diseases in Tennessee are driven by warm, wet weather. Anthracnose on dogwoods and sycamores, leaf spot on crabapples and cherries, powdery mildew on crape myrtles and oak diseases like oak wilt each need a different response. The wrong treatment, or treatment at the wrong time, wastes money and does nothing for the tree.
A Certified Arborist identifies the disease, explains how serious it is and recommends the best response. That may be improving airflow by pruning, adjusting watering, removing infected leaves, applying fungicide at the right time or taking out a tree that threatens its neighbors. We tell you what is cosmetic and what is dangerous.
Many leaf diseases mark leaves without killing the tree. Others, such as oak wilt and certain canker diseases, can kill a tree and spread to others. We separate the two and focus attention on the problems that threaten the tree.
Options include cultural fixes like pruning and watering changes, protective fungicide timed to bud break, injections for specific diseases and removal of infected wood. Fungicides are not a cure for every disease and work best as protection before infection.
Healthy trees resist disease. Good mulching, deep watering in drought, right-tree-right-place planting and clean pruning cuts are the best defense. We also look at species selection for future plantings.
When replanting, choosing disease-resistant species can save a lot of grief. We recommend varieties that handle local conditions, such as resistant dogwoods and crape myrtles.
