When a stump has to come out completely, roots and all, we have the tools and the experience to pull it, dig it or grind it deep.
Most stumps can be ground and forgotten. Some, however, have to come out entirely: under a planned slab, in the path of a fence line, over an old septic tank or where a new tree needs the exact same spot. Full removal means digging, cutting roots and hauling the stump away.
We choose the method that fits the stump, the soil and the site. Mini excavators and skid steers can pull many stumps. Hand digging and root cutting handles tight spots. Deep grinding is a good middle path when equipment cannot reach. A Certified Arborist helps you decide whether full removal is truly needed or whether a deep grind is enough.
Building footings, swimming pools, retaining walls, septic work and anything with a hard surface above the stump are the usual reasons. If you only want to plant grass or beds, grinding is usually enough and far less disruptive.
Excavators pull stumps by their root plate after cutting the main roots. Hand tools and saws deal with roots near utilities. For large stumps, we may grind most of the mass first and then pull what is left, which reduces the size of the hole.
Pulling a stump leaves a hole that has to be filled. We fill with clean soil, compact it in lifts to avoid settling and rake the surface. We tell you what to expect over the following months as the fill settles.
Stump removal near septic tanks, drain fields, irrigation lines and utilities needs care. We locate lines before digging and use hand tools and air tools where equipment could cause damage.
