Overgrown hedges and shrubs cut back to shape, with clean lines, healthy growth and a tidy finish.
Hedges and shrubs are living walls and living furniture, and they grow whether you plan for it or not. A year of neglect turns a crisp boxwood row into a green blob and a privet hedge into a tunnel. Trimming brings them back to the size and shape you want.
We trim by hand and with power tools, shaping hedges so the base is slightly wider than the top, which lets light reach the lower branches and keeps the hedge full from the ground up. We know which shrubs can be cut hard and which will not recover, and we avoid cutting into bare wood where regrowth is unlikely.
A hedge that is wider at the bottom than at the top keeps its lower leaves. Flat tops that are wider than the base shade the bottom and lead to bare legs. We cut with a slight taper and keep the lines clean.
Some shrubs, like privet and forsythia, take hard pruning well. Others, such as many conifers, do not regrow from bare wood. We tell you which is which and plan rejuvenation in stages when needed.
Spring bloomers are trimmed after flowering. Evergreen hedges are usually trimmed in late spring or early summer and lightly again in late summer. We schedule by plant type.
Some hedges are past saving. We can remove them, grind the stumps and replant with species that suit the spot and need less trimming. A good replacement saves time every year.
