Tree Preservation

Valuable trees kept alive through a build, a remodel or a driveway, with a plan that protects roots, trunk and canopy.

Mature trees add value to a property, but construction is one of the most common ways they die. Digging cuts roots, equipment compacts soil, grade changes smother them and a careless bucket can wound the trunk. The damage often does not show for years.

A Certified Arborist reviews the plans and the site, identifies trees worth keeping and sets protection zones. We specify fencing, root pruning, air-spade trenching near utilities, mulching and watering during the work. When a tree must be removed, we say so before the build starts, not after.

What tree protection means

Protection zones are fenced off around the critical root zone, which is far larger than most people think. Equipment, materials and traffic stay out. Where utilities have to cross, we use air tools and hand digging to avoid cutting large roots.

Working with builders

We provide a short, clear plan for the site team, mark the zones, and check on the work during the project. We coordinate with builders, architects and city requirements so protection fits the schedule.

When trees cannot be saved

Some trees are in the footprint or too damaged to survive the change. We identify them early so the design and budget can reflect it, and we plan replacement trees as part of the landscape.

Fines and rules

Many cities and counties have tree protection rules, with fines for damaging protected trees. We help you understand what applies and plan the project to meet the rules.

Questions

Tree Preservation FAQ

How far from the trunk should I keep equipment?

The critical root zone is often much larger than the canopy suggests. We mark it for each tree.

Can I build a driveway near a tree?

Often yes, with methods that protect roots, like permeable surfaces and air-spade trenching.

Will my tree survive a remodel?

With good protection, many do. We tell you the risks.

Do you coordinate with my builder?

Yes. We give them a simple plan and check in during the work.

Can existing trees survive trenching?

Often, with methods like air spading and tunneling under roots.
